he TRON Foundation has announced that it will make the BitTorrent network faster and more efficient. By integrating the TRON blockchain into the peer-to-peer system, new incentives will be created for digital content uploaders.
In July of this year , it was announced that the TRON Foundation had acquired the company behind the torrent protocol, BitTorrent Inc. Now the blockchain company has announced more details on how to find the technologies together.
Project Atlas turns BitTorrent into a token economy
With Project Atlas, TRON wants to connect BitTorrent’s peer-to-peer network with its own blockchain. This should be done with protocol extensions and a separate token. So TRON wants to create a token economy within the torrent client, which should make the data transfer much faster:
“Project Atlas is the foundation for a new way of distributing content. The product will provide faster downloads, more seeds, backward compatibility, all without mining. It is adapted to today’s world: mobile, connected and transparent. Ultimately, we want to empower all content creators and their communities by eliminating the middlemen and allowing creators to distribute directly to users, “
said TRON founder Justin Sun.
Keep the Seeder by the pole
Once the implementation of the TRON blockchain into the torrent system has been completed, it should be possible for peers to exchange tokens with each other. The background to this is that so far there is no real incentive for torrent users to seed records, that is, to fully upload them over the network for a longer period of time. Uploaders should get the opportunity with TRON to earn tokens by Seeden. Who provides more bandwidth and storage space, then earns more. Leecher, so Downloader, should be able to offer amounts, if you want to get a specific file faster. The whole network should be faster and longer lasting.
The Tron tokens (TRX) do not work with the proof-of-work mechanism, which means that no one has to do crypto currency mining for the torrent implementation. Instead, TRX works with the delegated proof-of-stake mechanism. Here a system of witnesses and delegates ensures the reliable validation of the individual blocks.
No compulsion to change
If the blockchain complements the bittorrent network, there should be no user compulsion. Nobody needs to participate in the token economy, according to TRON. The technology is backwards compatible, which means that file sharers do not have to change their client or install the extensions to keep reading and sown. The plan is to implement the new technology first in desktop applications and later in mobile apps. Like BitTorrent, Project Atlas is said to be open source, so even third-party vendors can build the system into their clients.
TRON’s Project Atlas and the introduction of tokens into the BitTorrent network continues to provide material for discussion . If Leecher Seeder pays for faster data transfers, this could lead to an imbalance, in which the current free data exchange dies gradually. On the other hand, by creating monetary incentives, the peer-to-peer network could actually grow and much more data become available than before. We’ll know more when the first torrent client with TRON extension appears.
